Gynecomastia is the medical term to describe enlarged male breasts. It is a condition that can create an appearance that starts to look less masculine due to abnormally growing breast tissue.
Gynecomastia may be related to an underlying hormonal issue. It can also be caused by certain medications, steroids, obesity, marijuana use, or genetics.
Men with this issue typically feel frustrated and anxious, especially in circumstances where the upper body and chest are seen such as by the beach or in the gym.
Scottsdale, AZ plastic surgeon Dr. James Nachbar offers male breast reduction surgery for men who have gynecomastia. This surgical procedure has a high success rate. It is considered one of the more popular cosmetic procedures for men at Scottsdale Plastic Surgery.
Male breast reduction surgery is a procedure for men who have enlarged breasts that cannot be reduced with a healthy lifestyle or exercise and diet. If you are troubled by the appearance of your chest, and are physically healthy, you may benefit from gynecomastia surgery by Dr. Nachbar at Scottsdale Plastic Surgery.
Teenagers may also benefit from gynecomastia surgery; however, a secondary procedure may be warranted later during adulthood if abnormal breast tissue continues to form.
During your first appointment with Dr. Nachbar, treatment considerations will be discussed, and may include the possibility of undergoing surgery to repair the condition.

Liposuction is often used during surgery for gynecomastia, and may involve ultrasonic liposuction to help break up and remove the excess tissue. With the patient safely under general anesthesia, liposuction is applied to help rid excess pockets of fat from the chest wall.
In some cases, Dr. Nachbar will make a small incision by the areola to remove some excess glandular tissue.
What To Expect
Following gynecomastia treatment, your chest may be secured with a medical garment to help decrease bruising and swelling.
The results following male breast reduction surgery should be immediately noticeable, but maximal improvement will be visible after six to twelve weeks, when the swelling is resolved.
The incisions made during treatment take several weeks to heal.
Once healing is complete, exercise and strength training will complement the end results.
