While the availability of high-quality soft tissue fillers, such as Juvéderm and Radiesse, has made them less common, some patients still benefit from placement of a silicone rubber Chin Implant or other Facial Implant.
More Information
Chin implants are, for example, commonly performed along with other surgery, such as rhinoplasty or facelift, or they can be performed on their own. Especially for younger patients, for whom many filler procedures would need to be done, and who may want more fullness in the chin area, an implant may be the best approach.
Chin implant can be placed through an incision inside the mouth, avoiding an external scar.
Other implants, such as cheek implants, may be useful, but most patients use one of the denser fillers, such as Radiesse, to improve their cheek contour.

Dr. Nachbar uses both fillers and facial implants, depending on the situation. When a chin implant is to be done, Dr. Nachbar does the procedure in the surgery center under general anesthesia, for the best patient comfort and safety. Because an incision within the mouth is used, the safety of a tube to protect the airway from fluids that may pass into the mouth is beneficial.
Cheek implants are more rarely done, because use of injectable fillers are very effective in the cheekbone ("zygomatic") area.

About UsChin & Facial Implants FAQs
How long do chin and facial implants typically last?
Chin and facial implants are designed for long-term enhancement, often lasting a lifetime. The materials used, like silicone, are highly durable and biocompatible, making them resistance to breakdown within the body. Some people might require adjustments over time, especially if they experience significant facial changes due to aging. However, most find that once placed, implants maintain their shape and appearance for many years without additional surgeries.
Will chin or facial implants feel natural to the touch?
Once healed from surgery, most implants feel very natural, both to you and to others who might touch your face. During the initial recovery phase, there may be some swelling and firmness, but this subsides over time. Since the implant is placed beneath the skin, it becomes a natural extension of your facial structure, often undetectable even to yourself.
How do chin and facial implants affect facial symmetry?
Chin and facial implants are often chosen specifically to address facial symmetry, enhancing proportions and creating a more balanced look. Implants can bring subtle harmony to facial features by defining areas like the chin or cheeks.
