Surgical Technique
Dr. Nachbar generally performs blepharoplasty under general anesthesia, although if only the upper eyelids are being treated, local anesthesia may be appropriate. This cosmetic procedure may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the bottom eyelid, or a combination of both upper and lower during the same surgery.
- Upper
Upper blepharoplasty assists in diminishing the hanging of skin that droops over the eye to create a more appealing eyelid appearance. An incision is usually made along the fold of the upper eyelid. - Lower
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to reduce extra, puffy skin and/or fat under the lower eyelid. The incision is placed just under the lash line to allow access to tighten the skin and remove extra fat, and the skin is delicately lifted to produce a smoother look.
What to Expect
After the procedure, you should take a few days to rest and avoid strenuous activities, although you will be up and around right away. Ice packs can help reduce bruising and swelling for the first day or so.
