After you lose significant amounts of weight, sometimes called "Massive Weight Loss", sagging of the skin is inevitable. Fortunately, there is something you can do about it. Different procedures can help different parts of the body; call the office for a consultation, and Dr. Nachbar will be happy to tell you how we can help.
For some patients, this occurs after gastric bypass or after gastric stapling procedures. These procedures reduce the size of the stomach, producing a gastric pouch that fills more quickly and produces satiety, or a sense of fullness, after a smaller amount of food. For many patients, this can help with weight loss, but is no magic cure. It still takes significant discipline to lose large amounts of weight.
For other patients, massive weight loss can occur with dietary restriction and exercise without gastric surgery.
However you lose the weight, massive weight loss will produce loose, hanging skin, because the stretching of the skin will have produced a loss of elasticity, preventing the skin from "snapping" back. The only effective way to deal with this problem is surgery, to remove the excess tissue.
These surgeries tend to produce significant scars, which are, however, very well tolerated, due to the dramatic improvement in appearance, and even in ability to get around without the hanging skin interfering with your movements. To treat all the areas desired often requires multiple procedures.
Dr. James Nachbar, a plastic surgeon at Scottsdale Plastic Surgery, offers after weight loss cosmetic surgery to men and women. This is usually a life-changing procedure and the last step in their weight loss journey.
The ideal candidates for skin removal and tightening surgery are those who have excessive loose skin due to losing a significant amount of weight.
In most cases, this challenge is seen early on as weight is lost. If weight loss has caused stretched skin, surgery by Dr. Nachbar at Scottsdale Plastic Surgery can reduce the skin deformity and secure the remaining tissue for a healthy, tighter look.

"Labiaplasty - Truth be told, I have always been fascinated with plastic surgery. I truly believe it you want something done and you believe it will benefit yourself in the long run, I see no problem with finding an answer to your solution. Well truth be told, I found the answer to my solution. Since this was indeed my first procedure and taste of the plastic surgery relm, I had no idea what to expect. I was very pleased with how smooth the entire process was. I loved my doctor, the nurses were fantastic and I had a very easy recovery time. I am so happy with my results, I would recommend this procedure to anyone I deemed up for it. I felt very taken care of with no sense of judgment whatsoever. His office is very clean, beautiful and conveniently located. He is full of knowledge and is not one of those money-hungry surgeons who would just recommend a procedure because he wants to get paid. He is the type of doctor that would not perform a procedure on you if he felt that is was not necessary. I felt very secure with this because I knew I made a wonderful decision picking him as my surgeon. 10/10 would recommend and I will be going back in the future."- Anonymous / RealPatientRatings / Mar 15, 2018

After weight loss surgery is usually a significant procedure. It is performed using general anesthesia, and can last a number of hours, depending on the number of procedures combined.
It is very common for patients to have an overnight stay after their procedure.
Most often, several procedures are combined into one surgery. For example, we can often perform circumferential abdominoplasty along with breast lift and breast implant placement in a single procedure. We can then perform brachioplasty and inner thigh lift at a second surgery, sometimes only two or three weeks after the first surgery.
When circumferential abdominoplasty is performed, Dr. Nachbar does it using the No-Drain Tummy Tuck technique. This, along with EXPAREL® long lasting anesthetic, allows the patient to be up and walking within only a few hours after surgery.
What to Expect
Once released from the hospital, it is important to schedule enough time to recover at home. Dr. Nachbar generally does this surgery without using any surgical drains.
Recovery time varies, but it is very important to be up and about as quickly as possible to reduce the chance of complications. Based on the surgery you are planning, Dr. Nachbar can discuss with you the time you should allow to recover.
After weight loss surgery can be life changing for patients, with noticeable outcomes that are immediate. Finally, you can wear the clothes you were not able to wear, and you can be active without sagging skin getting in your way.
